Logistics Coordinator

Department: Distribution
Office: Gehl Southeast
Location: Walterboro, SC
Shift: 1st Shift

Position Overview

Reporting to the Distribution Supervisor, the primary function of the Logistics Coordinator is to support the daily operations of the shipping office in addition to providing administrative support to a variety of supply chain departments and other assigned production teams. This individual is a point of contact to drivers and must ensure a positive image of the company while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides all visitors with a warm, inviting greeting. Ensures that all visitor agreements and supporting paperwork and protocols are followed ensuring GMP, safety and security compliance.
  • Deal directly with drivers either by telephone, electronically, or as needed in person to ensure all documentation is in order, entered into the appropriate tracking mechanism and support any inquires and complaints.
  • Record shipment data such as weight, charges, space availability, damages or discrepancies for reporting and record keeping purposes.
  • Contact carrier representatives to make arrangements to issue instructions for shipping and delivery of materials as well as to rectify damages or shortages
  • Create ship notes in ERP system, actively manage exceptions and notify key individuals of discrepencies or changes.
  • Assist in inventory inquiries, adjustments with customer service and inventory management team(s).
  • Receive goods, assess of damage and work with suppliers
  • Responsible for coordinating forklift loading/unloading operations
  • Operate forklift
  • Operate computer-controlled storage and retrieval system
  • Operate transportation management system for truckload and LTL shipments
  • Responsible for overseeing any third-party warehousing correspondence for assigned work unit
  • Provides administrative support which may include but not limited to: DOT driver compliance reporting, submission, Safety Leadership Team PowerPoint, employee information postings
  • Provides a wide variety of administrative and technical support to the logistics/supply chain department(s) including composition of correspondence, report generation, excel spreadsheets preparation, PowerPoint presentation preparation, training document tracking and filing.
  • As needed, provide warehouse support through forklift operations to support business needs.
  • Research, compile data to support assigned projects, reports and assigned initiatives.
  • Ensure that required competencies to carry out these job functions affecting product legality, safety and quality are met in accordance with the Quality Policy and Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standard.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate/plant safety standards and with applicable regulatory requirements while following the company’s Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, general education degree or equivalent
  • 1 or more year of Shipping and Receiving experience (ideally in a manufacturing environment)
  • Strong customer service orientation including the ability to interact and create positive relationships with a wide range of personalities and positions within the organization
  • Demonstrated superior verbal/written communication skills to effectively communicate with customers, drivers and internal staff to trouble shoot problems and create the best possible outcome.
  • Examine shipment contents and compare with records such as bills of lading, invoices or orders to verify accuracy
  • Prepare documents such as work orders, bills of lading or shipping orders to route materials
  • High Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong Interpersonal and listening skills to provide a positive and customer focused outcome during each interaction
  • Demonstrated proficiency using MS Office Products, including advanced working knowledge of Excel and Word
  • Ability to understand, interpret and apply general administrative and departmental policies, procedures and protocols
  • Ability to organize work, meet deadlines, work under stressful circumstances and frequent interruption often with limited direction and supervisory oversight.
  • Knowledge of relevant computer applications
  • Intermediate mathematical skills
  • Proven problem analysis and problem-solving abilities

  • Previous ERP experience
