Welder

Department: Maintenance
Office: Main Street
Location: Germantown, WI
Shift: 2nd Shift

Position Overview

Primary responsibility of the Welder is to provide welding support for the Germantown facilities, especially the Main Street plant.  Process piping repairs and installations are a key function of this position.  Responsible for assisting with other welding needs from maintenance and production.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Installs and repairs stainless piping, valves, platforms, guards, and other equipment
  • Knowledge of grinding and torch techniques
  • Complete sanitary piping and fitting as required
  • Fit and weld stainless steel piping from .049 to .120 wall using GTAW (TIG) welding
  • Repair stainless steel valves, tanks, and other equipment as require GTAW
  • Ensure compliance with plant safety standards and applicable regulatory requirements while following company Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
  • Responsible for routine maintenance and inventory of tools and test equipment to ensure work resources are ready and available at time of service request
  • Document work performed in company’s Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Determines required equipment and welding methods/techniques required to perform assigned tasks
  • Able to communicate effectively with department and internal customers
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2 years of sanitary/process pipe welding experience, ideally in a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated ability to read blueprints and schematic drawings to layout and weld pipe to meet design criteria
  • Ability to develop, plan, and weld/install small piping projects with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of grinding and torch techniques
  • Math skills to calculate pipe fittings to include basic algebra
  • Ability to problem solve in situations in which limited standardization exists
  • Ability to weld components in a flat, vertical, or overhead position often for extended periods of time
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations and promote an inclusive work environment

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4 years of sanitary pipe/process pipe welding experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Completion of a welding course or vocational/technical school education
  • Certified Welder (CW) through the American Welding Society
  • Completion of an apprenticeship program
  • Knowledge of aseptic processes, equipment, and products
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Ability to work from a Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) to pass Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ)
