Operations Controller

Department: Finance
Office: Whitney
Location: Germantown, WI
Shift: 1st Shift

Position Overview

Reporting to the VP Operations Finance, the Operations Controller oversees the daily operations of accounting and analysis for the manufacturing facilities. The position supports the business through the performance of accounting functions such as month-end close, variance analysis, budget & forecasting, and inventory control. The position will work closely with operations and plant management providing financial support and assessing production and operational efficiencies and KPI's driving business performance. The position will also play a major part in supporting the annual budget and forecasting process by providing insights on plant operational and departmental cost forecast as well as operational performance/ cost savings initiatives driving optimal cost performance and productivity within manufacturing plant operations and supply chain. The successful candidate will need to be detailed oriented, have a high financial and business acumen, adherence to established deadlines and the ability to partner with the operations and supply chain teams to assist in driving cost-effective change.

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs month-end closing activities, which includes preparation of journal entries, inventory reserves, accruals and other misc month end activities. Requires closing the month within the stated deadline, while maintaining accurate reporting.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely completion of all month-end activities and reporting including analysis of production, costs and savings initiatives and variances to pre-established budgets/forecasts.
  • Provide financial analysis and reporting for the manufacturing facilities and supply chain including spend and cost performance.
  • Provide performance analysis against metric driven performance measures.
  • Monitor operational performance including production, yield/waste, cost savings initiatives and recommend/support improvement initiatives.
  • Support operations and supply chain management with effective analysis to offer financial guidance for growth and change initiatives.
  • Support of capital projects thru ROI analysis.
  • Position will require an estimated 25% travel to locations.
  • Help to ensure proper internal controls surrounding financial reporting and safeguarding of assets are in place and followed by the organization.
  • Assist external auditors with the year-end financial audit including preparation of account analysis and provide supporting documents.
  • Monitor emerging technology to automate accounting processes without sacrificing accuracy and accountability.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate and plant safety standards and with applicable regulatory requirements while following the company’s Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Hold all confidential information in trust and confidence and ensure it is used only for its required purpose.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • 5-7 years related experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Strong organizational abilities, detail orientation and ability to multitask.
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office tools. Must show advanced level of proficiency in Excel. Experience working with integrated ERP systems, Ross preferred.
  • Good verbal, written communication & people skills. Ability to interact with a diverse group of people in a team environment.
  • Initiative-taker who is able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills using data to draw conclusions and implement solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations by promoting and maintaining an inclusive work environment and culture that is respectful and accepting of diversity.
  • Ability and means to travel; must possess a valid driver’s license and proof of valid insurance including liability and property damage coverage.
  • A resolute team member who is responsible, dependable, punctual and takes pride in work.
